Wordpress Beginnings

Hello all!

I haven't made a blog post in a while because of college craziness and I have been working on an additional Wordpress website called Fashionably Thrifty! 

This website is an asignment for my Internet Content Marketing class but I hope to keep the site up and running as well as this one. 

Today a friend of mine helped me with a short video, since my website is called Fashionably Thrifty, I hope to show young girls that you don't have to spend a lot of money in order to have a great look. This video is just an OOTD (outfit of the day) type video, showing how everything we were wearing today, was less than $30.

I don't usually use hashtags on Instagram. But if I do, I use a hashtag for each category the photo is. For example I'll put #tree for a photo of a tree not #thisisaphotoofanawesometree, like some do. It's just too much! But I've started posting photos of my Outfit of the Day, and since I'm all for thriftiness, I just can't help to post photos of outfits I've saved money on. Even though it's almost fall, it has been quite toasty and sunny here lately so today I wore a dress!

Here was today's outfit:

Hollywood Dorm DIY

For our dorm room this upcoming semester, my roommate and I decided to add a little touch of Hollywood to our decor with photos of Marilyn and Audrey Hepburn and pictures of all things Glamour. With neutral colored bedding that we already had, we're simply adding to the wall space with posters, photos, and things that go with our theme really nicely. I've cut out "Hollywood" in big letters from poster board and thought of leaving it white just like the real Hollywood sign. But then I thought, what if I wrap magazine clippings around the letters to add more oomph? So, I'm going to try it! Wooden letters are so expensive these days so I figured we'd go the more cost effective route and just buy poster board. (Cutting was very time consuming however, might I add.)

   I'll have many photos of our completed room once we move in a couple weeks from now, but until then, I have some time to make more decorations!

Dorm Crafting

With Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe as our theme for our dorm this year, my roommate and I tried to get creative with our decorations. We decided to take an old Audrey calendar and cut off the picture and tie twine in a bow in the hole so the hole would be hidden. It's a great idea for any calendar photos you want to save. Simply apply with sticky tack!

 

Also, our Hollywood poster cut outs from a previous blog post turned out really nice. Instead of wrapping magazine clippings around the letters like I had originally planned, to save time we stuck with the white. It still looks nice, who knows, maybe on a rainy weekend we will cut up some magazines! 

J Crew and H&M Sale!

I Since it's the 4th of July weekend, shoppers and fashionistas come out of the woodworks to purchase as many accessories and clothing items as possible. Through the rush of pushy buyers, I went to specifically purchase a giraffe necklace I've been wanting from J Crew. I was going to order it but shipping is almost $5 more dollars and since everything this weekend is %50 percent off, it was cheaper to buy it in the store. I got mine at the J Crew outlet for $12 instead of $24! It's the perfect length and has a small gold giraffe pendant attached. They're so popular I bought the last one!

The first item I purchased at H&M was this oversized sweater I found. Originally it was $35, marked down to $20 but I asked about the price and it was actually $15 and with a few missing shoulder beads, I got an additional %10 discount. This sweater is a Large (I'm a small) but when I tried it on, it fit as a slouchy, comfy sweater. I go to school in the most frigid place I've ever been, so I'm always up for a new sweater.

My second purchase from H&M was this cute cheetah button-up blouse for $10 on sale from $25. This also is a high-low shirt so it's longer in the back and would be great with leggings!

Why let old shirts go to waste especially men's dress shirts? Cut off the sleeves, cut the bottom shorter, and hand sew a pattern on the pocket-done! (For mine I cut it so the back of the shirt is longer than the front; a high-low top.)
